Susan Cohen Levy

Susan is Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Northern Trust Corporation, and also serves as a member of the Corporation’s Management Group. Northern Trust is a leading provider of wealth management, asset servicing, asset management and banking to corporations, institutions, affluent families and individuals. Founded in Chicago in 1889, Northern Trust has offices in the United States and 23 international locations in Canada, Europe, the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region. As General Counsel, Susan oversees a legal department consisting of over 100 employees across the globe.

Prior to joining Northern Trust, from July 2008 through April 2014, Susan was the Managing Partner of the law firm Jenner & Block, LLP.  Throughout her tenure at the law firm, which began in 1982, she was a member of the firm’s litigation department where she regularly advised the firm’s clients on complex business litigation matters. Ms. Levy received her J.D from Harvard Law School and her B.A. magna cum laude from Cornell.

Susan serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Ravinia Festival of Chicago and is a member of the American Law Institute, the Chicago Network, the Northwestern Law Corporate Counsel Institute, and the Bank Policy Institute. In 2016 Susan served as the Chair of the Chicago Bar Foundation’s “Investing in Justice” Campaign.

In 2018, the American Jewish Committee awarded Susan its Learned Hand Award, recognizing members of the legal profession. In 2016, The Legal Aid Society of Metropolitan Family Services presented Susan with the William H. Avery Award in recognition of her commitment to civic responsibility and pro bono legal services in the Chicago area. Also in 2016, Susan received the Chambers Diversity Award for Corporate Social Responsibility Lawyer of the Year. She has been selected by Leading Lawyers magazine as one of the top ten leading women lawyers, women business lawyers and women litigators in Illinois.
