Michael D'Ambrose

Michael is Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) of Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), one of the world’s largest agricultural processors and food ingredient providers. As a principal advisor to the company’s C-suite and board, he has been instrumental in ADM’s transformation into the industry’s leader – one focused on delivering exceptional shareholder value while advancing commitments in the areas of sustainability, employee safety, and diversity & inclusion. Notable achievements include leading ADM’s first-ever worldwide organizational restructuring; facilitating a smooth CEO selection and transition; creating an innovative learning and development organization; and pioneering programs that established a globally consistent culture of excellence.

To complement his CHRO role, Michael applies his HR and financial expertise on multiple boards. He has been deeply involved with Jobs for America’s Graduates for nearly 20 years, working to increase the country’s high-school graduation rate and address its skilled labor needs. His passion to grow the agricultural industry’s pipeline of diverse talent, led him to launch and lead Together We Grow, a consortium of more than 40 industrial, educational, NGO, and legislative partners working to share diversity and inclusion best practices and develop the next generation of industry leaders.

Prior to ADM, Michael served as CHRO of Citigroup, where he led the integration of Travelers and Citicorp, which was then the world’s largest merger. He aligned two vastly different cultures and formed one unified voice that increased the organizational effectiveness and productivity of more than a quarter of a million employees.

Michael gained his financial acumen and experience of approaching HR from a CEO’s perspective when he became CEO of Shadow Traffic in 1991. Within five years, he grew it into a nationally known media enterprise. After Shadow Traffic was acquired by Westwood One in 1996, he became its COO.

A graduate of Cornell’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations, Michael was recently awarded HR’s highest honor as a National Academy of Human Resources Fellow.
